ACCC stings coupon website over fees, redemption’s
Recently a coupon buying website was taken to court after allegedly misleading consumers and telling businesses there would be no fee or risk in running a deal on the site and that up to a third of vouchers would not be claimed. In a Federal Court action, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission alleges the website “misled consumers regarding their ability to redeem vouchers, their refund rights, and the price of goods advertised in relation to some of its deal”.
Redeem rewards does not sell coupons or deals on behalf of the merchant, all offers are made available and redeemed through the merchants physical store, in person if providing a service or via their own websites.
NSW Fair Trading reported that complaints against group buying sites had fallen amid a national drive by regulators to work with the companies and industry associations to deal with issues in the sector. from more than 800 cases in May last year (2017) to about half of that amount in September (2018).
Redeem Rewards is about giving both business owners and customers the opportunity to interact at a local level. Business who are part of the Redeem Rewards network directly through our merchant App or Desktop publishing tools upload and manage their own offers, rewards, and deals unless they have delegated this to a 3rd party marketing service.
Merchants who choose to use the App platform are directly responsible for the pricing of their offers and the quantity and time frame which all offers are available to be redeemed.
